How to Buy Shares in Pakistan: A Complete 2025 Guide by GS Trainings
One of the financial marketplaces in South Asia with the quickest rate of growth is the Pakistan Stock Market (PSX). In 2025, a growing number of Pakistanis are investigating long-term investing, stock trading, and share purchases. However, there is still a significant question for many novices.
“How can I buy shares in Pakistan?”
If you’ve ever asked the same question, you’re not alone. This detailed guide by GS Trainings explains everything in simple and easy words. You’ll learn how to buy stocks in Pakistan, how to start trading, and how to open a stock market account step by step. Let’s begin your journey into the world of investing.
What Is the Pakistan Stock Market?
The primary financial marketplace in the nation for buying and selling company shares is the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX). You acquire a tiny portion of that business when you purchase a share. If that company performs well, your share price can rise and you can make a profit.
The PSX lists hundreds of companies from different sectors, like
- Banking
- Cement
- Oil and gas
- Telecom
- Technology
- Pharmaceuticals
Each company’s shares are traded daily by thousands of investors, big and small. In simple words, the stock market is a place where ordinary people can invest and grow their money by owning part of real businesses.
Why Invest in the Stock Market in Pakistan?
Why should I invest in shares? Here are a few clear reasons:
a. High Earning Potential
If a company grows and its share price increases, your investment also grows. This is called capital gain when you sell your shares at a higher price than you bought them.
b. Dividend Income
Some companies share their profit with shareholders as dividends. This means you can earn a regular income just by holding shares.
c. Beat Inflation
Keeping cash in a bank account often loses value because of inflation. Investing in the stock market helps your money grow faster than prices rise.
d. Online and Easy
You can buy and sell shares completely online. All you need is a computer or smartphone and a trading account.
e. Ownership
When you buy shares, you actually own a small piece of a real business like Engro, MCB, or Lucky Cement. That’s exciting and empowering.
How to Buy Shares in Pakistan—Step-by-Step Guide
Subsequently, we shall proceed to the most critical aspect: the acquisition of equities in Pakistan. Follow these simple steps:
Step 1: Choose a Licensed Stockbroker
You can’t buy shares directly from PSX. You need a licensed broker who helps you buy and sell shares through their trading system.
Some of the top brokers in Pakistan are:

Step 2: Open a Trading Account and a CDC Account
To invest in the Pakistan Stock Market, you must open two accounts:
- Trading Account: This is created with your broker. You will use it to place buy and sell orders.
- CDC Account (Central Depository Company): This account stores your shares safely in digital form.
You can open a Sahulat Account if you are a beginner. It’s made for small investors and requires minimal documentation.
You’ll need:

- Proof of income (for some brokers)
After verification, your account will be ready in 1–2 working days.
Step 3: Deposit Money into Your Account
The subsequent action is to deposit funds into your account once it has been prepared. Online banking or a straightforward deposit slip can be employed to transmit funds from your bank account to your broker's account. The amount you add will be used to buy your first shares.
